KHULA Education currently works with 20 rural schools in uMzinyathi District. We partner with schools in communities surrounding Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana, making a lasting commitment to support and improve the quality of education for the children from their pre-school years through to graduation. We also work with the teachers, extending their skills and providing teaching tools where necessary.
Our approach is built on four key focus areas:
- Early childhood development
- Curriculum support interventions for teachers and principals
- Maths and English education
- Life skills development and job readiness
KHULA Education, supported by The David Rattray Foundation was founded in 2007. We have made a long-term commitment to give the children of under-served, rural communities in South Africa the opportunity of a quality education from pre-school years through to graduation from high school. We also work with the teachers, extending their skills and providing teaching tools where necessary. Our aim is to enhance the existing education programmes provided at government primary and secondary schools.
Our Reach: The inspiration for our educational initiative came from the late David Rattray who was passionate about helping local Zulu children through education. We are guided by his famous quote: 'Without education there is no hope and without hope there is no future'.
