To assist previously disadvantaged individuals to improve their lives by equipping them with skills, knowledge, values, and attitudes acquired through high quality interventions. The company does this through accessing financial resources for education and training, whether foreign or local donors, or through government or corporate windows. We operate a sustainable organisation that runs along principles of good governance, accountable financial practices, ethical behaviour and business dealings and dedication to quality.
The ‘Run Home to Read’ project, Project Literacy’s 16-year-old family literacy programme, continues to reach even more families. Project Literacy launched this project in June 2006 to tackle the absence of pre-school provision for poor rural and township children by involving their parents and caregivers in developing their children’s early literacy skills at home, in their own languages, leading to reading with understanding and joy. This later helps the children to make the most of their formal education at school. Unemployed literate adults from the community receive training as “Reading Champions” to assist in this programme.
