Siyafunda Community Technology Centre NPC is a community organization whose main focus is to provide access to digital skills and technologies to support grass-roots communities in rural and peri urban townships in South Africa, and supporting economic, educational, and social development —reducing isolation, bridging the digital divide, promoting health issues, creating economic opportunities, and reaching out to the youth, women, disabled, school educators, teachers, learners and unemployed youth.
Siyafunda Community Technology Centre NPC provides information through our community knowledge centres, where people can access computers, the internet, and other digital technologies that enable them to gather information, create, learn, and communicate with others while they develop essential digital skills. The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do thereby unlocking their potential.
Siyafunda Community Technology Centre NPC plays a key role in supporting schools in adopting and implementing computing and 4IR skills programs in order for teachers, educators, learners to practically experience the “touch and feel” of technology which provides the essential knowledge and skills to thrive in the ever-growing digital landscape. This is only achievable by utilising the top-down approach of first capacitating teachers, principals, circuit managers or anyone with a school leadership or management role.
Model: SIYAFUNDA CTC utilizes the Community Knowledge Centre model (CKC) to reach out to previously disadvantaged and underserviced communities. A CKC is a community centre with digital tools that will provide varied services. The CKC owned by local community partners and offer local resources. The CKC is at located at the doorstep of communities where community members can access the Internet, learn practical and creative skills, begin a program, and finish with a digital portfolio containing a skills checklist, writing samples, a resume, work qualifications and media documentation in the form of photos and short films. SIYAFUNDA CTC partners with these community organizations to implement this model in their respective communities. SIYAFUNDA CTC currently has a huge network of community partners in rural and peri-urban communities, and our aim is to further grow this network as there is a high demand for technology skills training.
