The YeBo Institute was formally established in 2023 as a Non-Profit Company (NPC) and serves as the administrative and strategic home for the national youth service programme, YearBeyond, and its training arm (the YeBo Academy). YearBeyond utilises a dual-beneficiary model, providing structured work experience and personal development for youth, while simultaneously delivering high-quality community interventions. The programmes tackle challenges that communities face in education or social cohesion. Education: YearBeyond’s education programmes provide learners in low- and no-fee public schools with literacy, numeracy, life skills, and psychosocial support, and literacy and physical development support for pre-school children and their caregivers. YearBeyond has a range of education programmes: Literacy and Numeracy Catch-Up Programme, WCED @HomeLearning Programme, Scouting in Schools Programme, Little Explorers ECD Programme, and the Shukuma Programme. Social Cohesion: YearBeyond’s social cohesion programmes build bridges between community spaces that provide public services and the communities they serve. This includes broadening access to facilities and services, building a culture of reading, and raising public awareness around key issues. YearBeyond has a range of social cohesion programmes: Libraries Programme, Placemakers Programme, Playmakers Programme, Healthy Pathfinders Programme, and the Khulisa Care Programme.
